Before a user can begain to use the system She/He will need to have a valid username and password.Assignment of user-names and initial passwords is typically handled by the system administrator.The username, also call a user_id,should  be unique and should not change .Initial passwords can be anything and should be changed after the first login of the user.

To login to one's account,type the username at the login prompt and press the RETURN na ENTER key.The UNIX is case-sensitive.. When the password prompt appears ,one has to type the password.The password is never displayed on the  screen as security measure.It is also case-sensitive. One has to press the RETURN and ENTER key after entering the password .Only if one enters the user_id and password correctly.the permission to work in the system will be given.Depending upon the setting.one will see a prompt,usually a dollar sign($).A user can enter his/her commands at this prompt.

usually each user has a home directory that reserves space for files,.When successfully logged in,the system will take a user to the home directory where she/he can work with the files . Usually the user only and she/he alone can modify files in the home directory.Others may have read permission to view files in the home directory,but they can not modify or delete any  file.Similarly,One can view files with read permission in other directories.

When a user completes her/his work ,she/he should log out by typing "logout" at the system prompt.
