Once executed, the virus starts it malicious activities, Such as deleting files, corrupting applications, and disabling hardware devices on a computer.


In addition, a virus searches for a medium to replicate itself by attaching to executable files that may be part of a legitimate program. virus may affect any file of an OS, but they usually target .COM, .EXE, .SYS, .BIN or .PIF files.

Viruses easily spread through e-mail attachments and internet messenger applications. An e-mail virus is malicious code sent as an email-attachment. When activated, The virus perform  malicious activities, Such as Destroying certain files on the hard disk. In Addition, a virus can cause the attachment to be e-mailed to all contacts in the victim's adress book.

Attackers use internet messenger applications , Such as Google Talk or Yahoo Messenger, to attach virus-infected files with the messenger's friend request.When an Unsuspecting user opens a file received through a messenger application, The virus gets activated and damages the computer.

  • Crash a computer repeatedly.
  • Increase the size of files stored on the hard drive.
  • Erase files from a hard drive.
  • Make multiple copies of itself and consume all the free space on the computer hard drive.
  • Reformat the hard disk drive of the computer.



Different types of viruses can perform different activities depending on the location, Such as RAM or the Master Boot Record(MBR), Where they load themselves.
